GCoS Living and Learning Communities
Community building improves conditions, expands opportunities and sustains
positive change by developing stronger relationships and social networks.
Global Communities of Support is dedicated to using the principles and
practices of community building to address the challenges facing individuals
with autism and other developmental disabilities and their families.
The Global Community of Support concept is focused on re-creating the sense
of togetherness, security and community found in old-fashioned neighborhoods.
Communities can provide many of the advantages of traditional neighborhoods
while breaking down the isolation experienced by many individuals with disabilities.
Skillman Village
Skillman Village in Montgomery Township, NJ is planned to be a 260-acre
mixed-use, open space community, including extensive walking and bike trails,
cultural and social venues, commercial and retail locations and
age-restricted housing. GCoS is in ongoing discussions with Montgomery
Township to include a living and learning center for teens and adults with
developmental disabilities at Skillman Village, along with twenty-two (22)
beds of supported housing, which are already part of Montgomery's Affordable
Housing Plan.
This community would provide a beautiful and safe location for
homes and apartments for adults with developmental disabilities as well as
employment opportunities. By partnering with service providers and the
community, GCoS hopes to create a collaborative model that can be replicated
in other areas.

The GCoS Model includes:
